This was always going to be a tough physical game with both packs contesting for posession right from the kick off. Malone drew first blood and were awarded a penalty on the 22 for Portadown hands in the ruck...0-3 to the visitors.
Portadown answered back with a fine back move which saw veteran Pete Hoey score in the corner towards the end of the first half. In blustery conditions Hoey's conversion drifted wide of the upright. At halftime the score was 5-3 in favour of the home side.
From the restart the Ports got stuck in and were eventually rewarded when Darren Henderson scored on the 60 minute mark following some excellent forward play.
In the dying minutes, Hoey struck with the boot from a penalty to close the game at 13-3 to the Ports. This was a great victory for the blues who ended Malone's 2 year unbeaten record.
